History:
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was founded in September of 1932. It was part of the General Bureau of Agriculture and the Ministry of Agriculture up to 1945. Afterward it joined the University of Tehran and at the present, it is one of the leading veterinary research centers in Iran . It also provides support for the veterinary profession through its two referral hospitals, diagnostic services and continuing professional development courses.
The academic curriculums have been
drastically changed according to the social
and economical demands of the country so
as to offer a DVM degree within 6 years.
The number of departments has increased
from 5 to 9 and over 3120 students have
been awarded the DVM degree. A part
from the undergraduate program, there are
20 postgraduate (Residency and PhD)
courses available to graduates. The future
progress of the faculty of Veterinary
Medicine is assumed in clinical and

paraclinical sciences to be parallel to the goals of the Islamic Revolution in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The primary educational goals of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, at the  University of Tehran , have been to prepare competent students to meet the present and future demands to their professional services. The graduates are expected to fulfill the aspects of the health care profession that encompasses animal, human, and environmental health issues such as caring for food animals (cattle, sheep, goat, camel, poultry, fish and bee), sporting animals (horse), diseases prevention and treating animals using medicine and performing surgery.
